BLUFF FORT VISITOR CENTER

The Archiplex Group was engaged to assist the Hole in the Rock Foundation in realizing their dream of recreating the original two-story co-op store in Bluff, Utah. In the early days of Bluff, the co-op store served as the heart of economic and social activity. Around the turn of the century, the log structure was replaced by a two-story, 4,800 SF stone building. Tragically, in 1925, a bank robber known as Frank Starr attempted to rob the co-op using an excessive amount of dynamite. This unfortunate incident led to the destruction of both the co-op store and Frank Starr.

In May 2008, the Foundation received a Federal Scenic By-ways grant to fund the construction of a replica building. The new building incorporates modern technology disguised through carefully selected details and materials, enabling it to evoke the historical design and ambiance of its predecessor.
