ST. THOMAS MORE EDUCATION CENTER EXPANSION AND REMODEL

Archiplex provided full service architecture including programming, design and engineering services for a new Classroom and Gymnasium building at St. Thomas More Parish. The St. Thomas More Addition and Remodel substantially modified the original St. Thomas More Parish Center in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. The Church Parish Hall and School were built in the 1990’s. The new project added 30,000 SF and included new classrooms for the existing school and a new high school size gymnasium with maple floor and locker rooms. The existing building was reconfigured with an enlarged gathering space, a remodeled social hall and adjoining kitchen and 7,000 SF of new offices. Remodeling included mechanical system upgrades and remodeling of public entry areas. The project also included a 5,000 SF remodel to the existing building to provide expanded offices and to enlarge the undersized and aging kitchen.

The Archiplex Group team was engaged on this project to substantially remodel and expand the Parish Hall for much needed new space. Masonry was selected as the primary building material both outside and inside the new building. CMU was the material of choice because of its durability and compatibility with the existing CMU and brick walls and the wide variety of colors and textures available. From the onset, the design team sought an aesthetic solution which would weave new and remodeled areas of the existing campus into a seamless color and textural fabric.
