UTA LOVENDAHL REMODEL

Utah Transit Authority (UTA) selected Cordova Design with Archiplex Group to perform Final Design Services for a light rail maintenance building and yard facility. Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, this project encompasses a complete building remodel of an existing warehouse distribution facility into a light-rail vehicle maintenance facility for UTA’s expanding fleet. The project had two main components: the 300,000 SF existing warehouse area is the shop component consisting of service pits, wash bay, rail truck repair bay, drop table, wheel-truing machine pit, and a HVAC repair bay with overhead bridge cranes; and the second component includes the east-side improvements with offices and warehouse for storage of parts and equipment. Concurrent with the building design and construction, a yard improvement package was designed by a separate team working closely with Archiplex Group. The facility services the fleet for UTA’s newest Airport, Draper, Mid-Jordan and West-Valley lines as part of UTA’s $2.8 billion “Frontlines” program. At the heart of the building is a Control Room overseeing the rail operations. The Control Room is tied to UTA’s system-wide fiber optic network. This facility is one of UTA’s highlighted projects with the ARRA funds and is considered a flagship building within their operation.
