ST. ROSE OF LIMA EDUCATION CENTER EXPANSION AND REMODEL
Archiplex Group provided full service architecture and engineering for the new social hall and education wing at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Layton, Utah. The present St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church was built in 1993 on Chapel Street on a parcel of approximately 5.5 acres. This new extension to the existing Church incorporates approximately 17,200 SF of additional space for religious education and social activities.
The new addition is divided into social and educational spaces. The social spaces is a bridge between the new meeting rooms and the educational facilities. The social center functions as the foyer to the education center and can be isolated from the education center with a security gate. This allows for separate functions to overlap but not disturb each other and also restricts access to other underutilized parts of the building thus limiting custodial needs and increasing security. The social space serves for social gatherings and as an additional meeting room or auditorium for the education center. The relocated kitchen is situated between the meeting rooms and the social center so that it can serve both areas.
The new facilities were very much needed by the Parish which previously operated out of an outdated school and community meeting facility approximately 5 miles away. The new building utilizes sustainable design principles to enhance indoor air quality, water conservation, energy conservation, and day lighting following LEED credit guidelines.
